Why men struggle to get in shape Most men struggle to get in shape, and stay in shape for various reasons. Modern times have left us with woman with masculine tendencies and men, with feminine tendencies. Outside of that our digital world makes it easier to feel like you’re accomplishing more than you actually are so it’s easy to feel rewarded. On the other side of the coin, people use the digital and virtual world for escapism. It’s easy to watch NBA players, or play Call of Duty and masquerade as an elite athlete or soldier without having to be either. The human body was meant to move, not be a pool of preventable diseases. So what are the five reasons men struggle to get in shape? You don’t understand diet or exercise Most people grossly overestimate their abilities, when it comes to diet and exercise. They are educated through infomercials and cheesy ads they see on social media. While most men, may watch videos, that are educational, the online world is filled with quick fixes so their knowledge becomes a mix of bro science and pseudo fitness information. Most men, have a grossly skewed concept, of What the keto diet is What fasting is What macro’s/micro’s are How to set up a balanced diet and exercise program What their recovery should look like How to properly fuel and hydrate themselves How to select weights and exercise selection How to pick the proper amount and duration of time for cardio Excuses The excuse are as follows: I don’t have time (even though you make time for tv, netflix, friends and whatever is of interest to you) I work out with my friends ( in reality you either spend 3 hours talking at the gym, or skip the gym entirely) I don’t have the money (You do, but instead spend it on escapism and entertainment) You don’t track your progress You say you want to increase your bench, lose weight. Or you may have some other objective goal, that if you took the time to track you would be able to improve on the goal in no time. Without measuring the goal, you don’t know if you are moving forward or backwards with what you set out to accomplish. You don’t have a set schedule/plan You show up to the gym with no idea as to what you should be doing. You jump from machine to machine, and when you leave, you have no idea as to when you will be back. This will never yield any meaningful results, and will keep you from making impactful changes. Bad form going too heavy A lot of men butcher exercises, even fool proof exercises like machine based exercises. Most men, believe, they don’t need a trainer, or to have any fundamental understanding of exercise. They believe they can guess their way through workouts and get a six pack and their dream body in 2 weeks. Outside, of that most men, tend to either go to heavy or too light, and in both cases their form suffers. Summary Overall this is not an exhaustive list this is just the most common walls men hide behind. These barriers for the most part are mental barriers, and ego that prevent men from getting in shape. Don’t fall victim to anything listed here. Additional reads What makes TRX training so special?
