A lot of people debate debate daily about whether or not macros or calories for weight loss. Some argue that macros matter more, others argue that calories matter more.
In my practice, what I tend to have my clients do is focus more on calories in the beginning of their weight loss journey.
As time goes on I teach them how to properly track their marcos, with a caloric parameter to follow. Without a proper marcos, you won’t see the proper weight loss and changes you’re looking for.
Why calorie counting alone doesn’t work
Millions of people have done weight watchers and fail because they simply count calories.
Without macros you miss key nutrients both macro and micro.
By understanding macros, you can effectively loss weight, boost lean muscle, and cut body fat.
Macros / Macronutrients
A calorie is not a calorie, carbs, protein and fats are essential marcos.
Our body processes calories differently, for example protein is processed differently from carbs, and from fat. Now in each of these macros categories, some types of protein for example process more efficiently than others.
In this case lets compare eggs to beef jerky, eggs are highly digestible where as beef jerky requires more processing.
Foods they are high in protein and fiber, make you feel fuller longer.
How each marco works
Carbohydrates
Carbs are a quick source of energy and pair with a fiber or protein can leave you feeling fuller longer.
Protein
Improves recovery from workouts and increases the sense of feeling full.
Fats
Omega 3’s have anti-inflammatory properties, slows digestion, and helps your body metabolize fat-soluble vitamins.
In the near future I will show you how to fully utilize this information. Focusing on only calories, won’t teach you how to properly fuel your body.
In order to build muscles, lose weight, tone up or even maintain a weight your happy with macros mean everything.
